A few days later, Eddie and Cade are in a local gym, not far from the Scotiabank Arena in Halifax. Cade had been doing his best to prepare Eddie for this upcoming Tournament. Trying to make sure he was aware of any situation that might arise. Cade up along the side of the training room. He tossed over a bottle of water to his friend.
"Cheer, I need this!" Eddie explained as he opened the bottle. Before downing half of the bottle.
Cade jumped up on the ring and sat down on the apron.
"So, I think we have pretty much covered as much as we can for your first match," Cade said as he looked over towards Eddie. "We are going to need to start to prepare for the second match soon," said Eddie.
"I know. At the moment, you need to drag yourself into the locker room. Take a shower and rest up for the remainder of the day. We will pick it up early tomorrow. You are going to need the rest," Cade said while laughing as he jumped off the apron and headed off to the locker room.
Eddie reached over and picked up a towel, and wiped his forehead. Before taking another mouthful of water. He took a moment to look around the gym. It almost reminds him of the one that Seth runs back home. The same one his brother trained in for years. Suddenly Eddie turned around as Cade came out of the locker room, with his bag over his shoulder.
"I have a few bits to go and deal with. I will meet you back here in the morning," Cade said as he headed out of the front door.
After a while, Eddie headed into the locker room, throwing the empty bottle in the bin and The towel down on top of his duffle bag. Eddie turns and sits down on the end of the bench. He was facing a large mirror.
"First match again, Jay Stevens. I have done as much as possible to prepare for the match. Now I will come down to the match and who wants it more. In Match Two, I will be facing the returning Julius Fristik. On paper, he seems a solid all-around competitor. Rumour has it that he is the son, or something like that, of Jesse Jamester. Yea, the current top dog of the fed. Either way, it doesn't matter; it doesn't mean anything to me who his father, mother, brother or sister is. Once the match starts, he will be my only focus and ultimately winning the match and getting the most points for the victory. What does this tournament mean to Julius? Does he need to win this tournament, or is he just riding his father's coattails for a while? Really how long will it be before he once again leaves to live off his father's money."
Taking a moment, Eddie just looked at his reflection, his eyes moving from his face down to his chest.
"I guess I shouldn't be too hard on him; it wasn't like he walked away from the business. No, he was carried off on a stretcher to the hospital. Seriously though, he might want to think twice before stepping in the ring. If he isn't fully healed up, he will be putting himself at risk. I won't be making excuses for him or making it easy for him during the match. If I have to, I will send him back to the hospital on the way to pick up the win. I know first hand how crap the hospital can be. I have spent many nights there. You don't go through this business without a list of visits to the emergency room. Or an even longer list of injuries. I had my nose broken a dozen times, multiple concussions. I even had my chest clawed by an f'n bear at the End of Days tournament a few years back. Broken ribs in a chain match. Not afraid of getting hurt or putting my body on the line to get to my goal."
Eddie runs both hands over the top of his head, moving most of his back behind his ears, before stretching.
"I know what it is like standing in the shadows or an important male figure. I followed my brother into this business. It didn't take me long to stand out from his shadow and prove that I was the better man. Now that isn't an issue at all for me. He didn't take long before leaving the business due to his Demons: demons that end up taking his life and that of my sister. Lucas had lost himself in the bottom of a bottle. It wasn't the first time, over the years. He beat his sister to death in a fit of rage. Unable to come to terms with what he had done. He went on the search for some strong enough to forget it all. Then ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being shot during an armoured robbery. Most people, once they run into a roadblock or an obstacle, they normally give up. Overcoming these things in life helps to form and mold you. Pretty much this tournament will do. It will weed out the weak ones leaving the strongest, the ones with the burning desire to win, go on to the semi-finals and then the finals. We will see who wants to win this tournament; they will have to face me and win if I let them. The Cruiser King is ready to take his crown."
Finally, Eddie pulls himself up from the wooden bench, grabbing a fresh towel and heading into the showers, for a much needed soak.
