Chris Card: It’s been a pleasure to fight in front of your fans here in Japan. It has been a long time since I have had a chance to show a Japanese audience that while your style is practised to a high level in Japan… Toukon play at that game. You see I was doing Strong Style in the west years before it became fashionable back home and utterly dominant over here. That blend of Mixed Martial Arts and Pro Wrestling? I’m not saying I invented it. But I did a lot to help popularise it. When Kip Reed gave me the nickname “Technical Perfection” all those years ago he was complimenting Strong Style.
Chris Card: So I know you have a history of celebrating great wrestling in this country. And if I can walk into BRAVE wrestling and defeat your brightest, keeping a firm hold around MY CWA Championship, don’t stand and boo me. Partially because you can’t, Japanese rules around COVID rather preventing that at the present time, offer a polite round of applause to yourselves as a wrestling culture. Because I’m one gaijin whose style will seem very… VERY familiar to you all. And to my upcoming opponent? Shinzaki-san, it wouldn’t look good on your resume to drop a match to an invader working the style you’ve been trained in since you were a young boy. And whatever I may do in that ring, know that you have to go backstage and explain the loss to your trainers. I’ve met them and that’s not a conversation I’d ever want to have.
