Interested in knowing what people do for work or to pay the bills.
Its strange to think about it now, but 15 years ago I was considering Engineering as my career path. Decided technology was more diverse and had the strongest growth though.
I work as an Systems Administrator for a Managed Service Provider. We handle everything from Cloud infrastructure, Veeam & AWS backups, solutions for software (both support and deployment), with a focus on client anchors for our data centers and services ranging from server building, office 365 migrations, Exchange management, software licensing, monitoring and alerting, along with a variety of other items that I don’t want to bore you with.
Currently studying for my AWS Certified Solutions Architect and SysOps Administrator.
What do you do for work?
Is it fulfilling?
Is it what you thought you would be doing 5-10-15 years ago?
If you had a dream job, what would it be?

I work in head office for a disability organisation that provides day programs, work programs and accommodation to people living with a disability.
My role is two parts: - reporting to the government and ensuring compliance activities within the organisation are achieved - driving continuous improvement through building Microsoft flow automations utilising our Office applications (SharePoint, Planner, etc.) which is essentially moving them off paper based to the cloud to work smarter not harder
I pretty much Google how to make things smarter because I have no official training.
The job has its moments because I know I’m making peoples lives better but in head office I’m one of two men out of 40 women and they see me as a threat because I can do things they don’t understand.
Not sure how long I will last there due to the oestrogen suffocation but let’s see, huh?
Dream job would be to run my mental health fashion brand and build a fleet of mobile Telehealth services for regional Australians.

What do you do for work? I work at a factory that makes Springs (yes I have heard all of the springs jokes like a million times before). I work in the goods in / despatch / stores. So I have the fun of checking and booking in all deliveries that are sent to us. Once the parts are booked in, it is my job to make sure people have the right raw materials for the job. Then I get to count up the jobs and get them ready to be despatch to the customer
Is it fulfilling? Most of the time it is. In general I enjoy the job I do.
Is it what you thought you would be doing 5-10-15 years ago? Well I have been at my job for the last 13 years doing the same job role most of the time. Before that I spent 3 years at a different factory in the same job role as I do now. So I don't really see anything changing to much in the near future.
If you had a dream job, what would it be? Well I'm not sure, I guess my current job could be as close to a dream job as I might get.

What do you do for work?
- I'm an investment consultant for a bank in the Toronto/Vaughn Market.
Is it fulfilling? - I enjoy what I do. I help people on a daily/weekly basis by empowering them to make proper decisions in regards to their finances. Financial planning isn't a course or skill that is taught in our school system's here in High School/College or University - so there is learning gap for a lot of people. Maybe when I retire I'll teach young folks of the importance - but for now, I'll stick with what I'm doing.
Is it what you thought you would be doing 5-10-15 years ago?
- I had dreams of being a sport agent when my playing career came to an end. Went to school for the management side of sport, and parlayed it into finance by taking courses. I'm about 13 years in, so 10 years ago - my current position was definitely something I was aiming for.
If you had a dream job, what would it be?
- GM of a professional basketball team. OR, the Head Coach of a D1 University Basketball Program.

What do you do for work?
I'm currently managing a small lowest-income government subsidized apartment complex.
Is it fulfilling?
Mostly no, it's an even mix of mind-numbing bureaucracy and goddamned drama. At the same time, I know I'm not running them 'right', but nobody else is going to run them wrong the right way like I am, so I feel like I'm helping make the world a better place even if it's on a very small scale. What I mean by 'wrong the right way' is instead of using the rules the government bureau that subsidizes this place to make my tenants' lives miserable, I do everything I can to help them. I do not allow them to break the rules, but I'm pretty good at 'follow the rule to the letter in such a way that your life is made as easy as possible' kind of stuff.
Is it what you thought you would be doing 5-10-15 years ago?
No. Not at all. Ever since I was old enough to have a thought in my head about my future I was begging my parents to get rid of the apartments, but dad just wouldn't do it. Two years ago I thought I'd be doing my HVAC filter business for my life, but COVID ripped that to shreds.
If you had a dream job, what would it be?
I want my filter company back and the Kroger contract that never materialized.

What do you do for work?
I’m a caseworker for my state’s welfare department. In short, I have a caseload of clients who receive public assistance, mainly food stamps and Medicaid. I don’t know what other countries call these services, but I think the equivalent in Australia is CentreLink.
Is it fulfilling?
It can be. The vast majority of the people I am responsible for are everyday people just trying to get by, especially with the pandemic’s effects on everyone. The fact that I try my best to make life a little easier for people, and give them a little help to survive, makes me feel, like Jeff, as if I’m making the world a better place, even if it’s only on a small scale, in my little portion of it.
Is it what you thought you would be doing 5-10-15 years ago?
15 years ago I’d abandoned my plans to go into pharmacy school and was just trying to finish a degree and go get a job. My then-roommate’s father told me to look at government jobs, because they were a good way to make a decent living and not have to worry about climbing some imaginary corporate ladder. I started as a clerk, and went for the caseworker gig when I figured I’d learned enough about the system to take a more active role in it.
If you had a dream job, what would it be?
Professional voiceover artist, warlord’s spoiled-rich son, Tony Khan, bored gazillionaire.
