It could be said that Rob Garcia is on a bit of a role as of late. First he defeated Freakke and the very next show the Northern Pro Audience was gifted a three way dance. They were to see a bit of a rematch between Freakke and Garcia but now the North American Cruiserweight Champ was to be included. It’s the type of situation that Lochlyn Cade likes. It’s the challenge. It’s the odds being against him. It keeps him on his toes.
That’s not exactly how it turned out though, is it? No, the Champion ended up taking a reverse DDT onto a steel chair. The Promethean knew in that moment that defeat was close at hand. It’s not like he’s never taken a loss. He knew what it felt like. When his head came crashing down onto that hard cold steel he knew that the match was going to be over before contact was even made.
It hurt. Not his head so much as it did his pride. Taking a loss like that hurts the ego and perhaps a bit of the confidence. That walk back up the isle to the dressing room backstage. That walk was difficult and that Championship title felt a bit heavier that it did earlier when he was headed towards the ring.
Lochlyn Cade knew that there were fans in that arena that hated him, despised him, and would spit on him if given the chance. He’s always been okay with that. It’s part of the world he created for himself. That night though it stung just a bit more. Maybe it’s his dislike of Rob Garcia. Maybe it’s his dislike for The ReVenants as a whole.
He’s not a fan of any of them and taking a loss like that to Garcia gives them an edge. Not just against him but guys like Jesse Jamester as well. Momentum in this business dictates a lot if you allow it. If you let it sit at the back of your thoughts. It eats at you. It rips away confidence. It consumes your everyday life.
Championships are lost and careers are forsaken because of sudden loss of confidence. No, Lochlyn Cade can’t, won’t, allow that to happen to him. He’s the guy that puts others into that frame of mind. He’s the guy that walks to the ring with a swagger. He’s the guy who’s arrogance is flaunted before his opponents. Lochlyn Cade lost a match but Lochlyn Cade isn’t a loser.
The Champ is proud to be a member of the Northern Pro locker room. He might not have any friends or allies but that doesn’t bother him. He’s always been a bit of a loner anyway. He might not have a big history between the NPW ropes but he’s already building a legacy. Yeah, his career has started nicely north of the American border. He likes Canada and he’s becoming accustomed to wrestling in the country.
It’s for those reasons that defeat stung more than usual. Picking himself up and dusting off his boots isn’t something he’s used to having to do but he’s done it. That gold belt has been shined. Those boots have been polished. The trunks have been washed. His bag is packed. Yeah, Lochlyn Cade is ready to fight again. He’s ready to bring a different kind of fight to Rob Garcia. The Promethean is going to show this guy and his ReVenants pals that he isn’t the type of guy to bow down. He’ll fight Garcia… Hell, he fight the whole damn group if he must. He’s got the blood to spill. He’s not vulnerable. He’s just now begun the fight.
