Dusty Griffith Addresses the Fans & Post-Match Comments
From the Official BRAVE YouTube Channel
Moments after his victory over Satoshi Watanabe, Griffith stands in the ring and asks for the mic. Once he has it, Dusty waits for the music to fade and for the Tokyo crowd to settle. He appears to be considering his words as he pats the mic.
“Before I begin, pardon me if I am…” He requests while pinching the thumb, index and middle fingers of his free hand together. “...a bit rusty, it’s been a while.”
He scans the audience who sit quietly, patiently. Then clears his throat.
“Kon’nichiwa, Nihon!” Dusty calls out loudly, which draws out an excited applause from an audience who appreciates being spoken to in their own language.
“It’s Watashi ga saigo ni koko ni itanode, sore wa amarini mo nagaidesu.” He states it’s been a long time since he was last in Japan. “Desukara, watashi no fuzai o yurushitekudasai!” Then asks them to forgive his absence with a bow, which garners a few calls of his name from the crowd in support, including one voice screaming out “We forgive you, Dusty-san!!”
Dusty points in the general direction of the voice, smiling and bowing his head respectfully. “Watashi wa koko ni ite, mōichido anata no tame ni tatakau koto ga dekite totemo shiawaseda to iu koto o subete anata ni tsutaetai to omoimasu.” He continues by stating that before he goes, he wants them to know how happy he is to fighting for them once again. “Anata wa zen sekai de saikō no puroresu fandesu.” Before declaring them the best wrestling fans in the world.
The crowd cheers, applauding and chanting his name. He waits for them to settle.
“Watashi ga iku mae ni. Anata no sapōto ni kansha shimasu, shikashi motto jūyōna koto ni, watashi o oboete kurete arigatō! Nihon, arigatōgozaimashita!” He concludes by thanking them for their continued support, but more importantly, for remembering him after all these years.
The shot closes with Dusty bowing deeply to all four sides of the ring. After a few seconds the video transitions to Dusty walking on to the makeshift media set backstage; which is mostly just a BRAVE backdrop with a folding chair and a bucket of ice with bottles of water jammed in there. He takes a moment to uncap a bottle of water and then slugs it, hard, downing half of its contents in one continuous chug before opening the floor to questions from the gathered media.
On his match with Satoshi Watanabe… “He’s strong and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future, but he’s not there yet. Watanabe-san’s just gotta figure it out, because he may be younger and have more energy than me at this point, but he’s not on my level mentally.”
On his experience returning to Japan… “It’s been good, really good. I wasn’t sure how it would be since I’ve been away for so long. It was sort of a relief to hear the people calling my name, cheering, clapping. I just hope that I lived up to their expectations.”
On returning to Japan again in the future… “Absolutely! It was way too long since I had been back. I’ve always loved fighting here for the Japanese fans, whether it’s pro wrestling or mixed martial-arts, there’s just a different energy that you won’t find anywhere else. So, yeah, definitely. If they’ll have me back, I’ll be ready to come back and fight for them some more.”
On what’s next for him after tonight… “Back to Canada. There’s three more waiting for me on the twenty third at Northern Pro’s Heart of Halifax. After tonight, I’m feeling even more energized for it now.”
On his opponents, specifically… “Doesn’t matter who they are or what they’re about. Carner, Ray, and Matsui are obstacles standing in my way. They’re objects, but they're not immovable. They’re each a force in their own way, but none of them are irresistible. All of them think they just might be the David to my Goliath, but the reality is, it takes the three of them to equal one Goliath to my David. And just like the old tale, I’ve got myself a sling and a big damn rock ready to knock ‘em all down.”
The video concludes.
