Na Koa II
The darkened locker room that they had been allocated had draped in the background the flag of Hawaii. Underneath it hanging in crisscross fashion were two Hawaii swords that had shark teeth on the blades. Kaupena Yoon was sat on a chair on the left whilst the mouth of his group was on the right. There was a haze of smoke filling the room. Kaupena was dressed in a black t-shirt with the words “Na Koa” upon it. Behind them were stood a group of various people. Robbie had a NPW branded microphone in his hand and then looked directly into the camera.
“Aloha people of NPW; my charge is used to being disrespected but last week’s show was distasteful and left a bad taste in our mouths,” he said. “So our plans didn’t quite go to plan last show, the guy was actually quite talented and managed to get one over on Kaupena. They really think that they can put down the Night Marcher like that?”
He smirked and turned to Kaupena who had an angry look upon his face.
“Hey K, give these cats some juicy back story to get them invested in you,” Osiris said. “Without buying into you, you’ll never get over in this promotion of kliq’s and bigotry.”
Kaupena looked directly into the camera and started.
“I have come a long way to be where I am now,” Kaupena said. “I can remember this one time, my cousin and I was in the backyard one Thanks Giving, and I dared him to jump off the roof onto a trampoline. Like it was my fault he went to hospital with a broken leg. I got in so much trouble for that but it just got me more involved.”
Robbie nodded as Kaupena continued.
“It wasn’t until High School that I discovered wrestling,” he continued. “But those assholes wouldn’t let me compete. Those arrogant pigs thought that because I was small for my age that I would hurt myself or more importantly make them look silly. Thinking all I should do is just hold the camera so they would look cool. But to be honest it wasn’t like I saw on television, but I still got in trouble. I once popped a guy’s shoulder out. And there was this time I was pissed off with this guy who had got in my face so I choked him with a headlock until he passed out.”
He turned and looked at Robbie for a few seconds before he turned back.
“But it’s not like you can find a job wrestling anywhere these days,” he said. “I was out of juvie when I heard about this wrestling school on the main island where they teach you the stuff you see on television. So I got on a boat and signed up. A lot of the guys there were pissed off ‘cos of me being a small guy in a giant’s game which is why I wore the mask. After being out of the country for a while I came back and well…….you all know what happened.”
Robbie shook his head at what Kaupena was saying as he knew what had happened in his brother’s wrestling promotion.
“Now that I’m here in NPW with my Polynesian brothers and sisters fighting for our rights to be seen as more than just savage islanders I have a chance to prove that this week,” he said. “Leon Van Zandt? Who is this guy? Does this Belgian think that he can really stand toe to toe with someone of my talent?”
He smiled as he continued.
“Leon Van Zandt?” he asked. “If there is never a cure for insomnia than him there was, I don’t know. I’ve heard things about you from others in the locker room and what you’re actually like. Nothing changes. This guy is the real deal when it comes to wrestling in the squared circle but this is not your average wrestling match. Come on brah, this is going to be fun my Belgium opponent.”
Kaupena shrugged his shoulders.
“Come on Leon. Can I call you Leon? No, why not Leon, do you think you got your spot in this match because of what you’ve done in the past? See that? THE PAST. Good things do not always come to those that wait for them. One must do more than sit on your ass waiting for some kind of prosperity to smack you right between your eyes. It is not wrong to have some kind of hope for something better but what can you actively do to pursue this course of action without losing sight of the bigger picture.”
Kaupena turned and looked at the figures behind him.
“With my loss last show in my NPW debut has opened my eyes to what was always before me,” he continued. “This statement of truths is dedicated to my next match which in my own words of wisdom mixed with the wise ranting’s of those that live in a deluded oblivion within the confines of their clothing. Rants are not always eventful but when they come from the likes of some of those that work for NPW and it is always eventful but if you were on the end of one of them it was what was right for the new era of the promotion.”
Robbie looked shocked at Kaupena as he’d not been around when Kaupena much when he was speaking in that Hawaiian promotion so wasn’t aware that he was actually quite lyrical.
“Anyway,” he said. “I’ll leave it all out in the ring, MY RING!”
