The Old Belleview City Cemetary
March 6, 2022.
The day went from sunny, warm, and beautiful to drastic, gloomy, wet, and miserable as "The Family Man" makes his way through the old Belleview City cemetery. He's parked the van about a half-mile back as the road has become overrun with trees and brush from the years being untouched. He makes his way on foot to the Ray family tomb, which looks like it could crumble at the slightest gust of wind.
The door creaks as he forces it open cobwebs and dirt fall to the ground as the door opens, You can see the names of all the Ray family members who have been laid to rest there. Danny Ray stands there in silence for a moment paying respect to his elders and to those who have passed before him. The memories that begin to rush through his mind start to flood his mind so quickly he closes his eyes, grabbing at his hair trying to calm himself as he drops down to his knees.
Several minutes pass by before the sensation eases and his mind begins to take control once again, his knees are soaked from the water that's leaked through the cracks in the ceiling. He manages to collect his thoughts and gather his wits as he makes his way over to a vault with the name "Danny Ray" on it. The date is marked Born November 22, 1977, with no date for his death. He takes out a screwdriver and begins to unscrew the front plate of the vault.
As he gets the last screw out of the plate he drops the screwdriver to the ground using both hands he quickly grabs the marble plate placing it on the ground in front of the vault. He reaches inside the vault pulling out what appears to be a lockbox. He walks over leans against the wall sliding down sitting on the ground as he pulls a key from his pocket. He slowly unlocks the box, his eyes get a haze over them as he sees the contents of the box.
He begins to rummage through it looking at pictures of his parents, of relatives, old loves, of the institute his father, and his grandfather were both committed to. He grabs some legal documents as he begins thumbing through the documents he reaches down into his shirt pocket pulling out a lighter, staring at both the lighter and the documents for what seemed like an eternity he tosses them both across the tomb before screaming.
"The Family Man" jumps up shaking as if he was about to lose control, he stops in front of a vault marked "W.A. Ray". He begins to slowly speak as if he was having a conversation with someone.
Danny Ray: Once again, you have messed up my life, the only thing you ever did for me, the only thing you ever gave me, and I have to keep it a secret from the world. Why so the world won't judge my family! Yeah, what a father you were, for a whole five years of my life before mom, had to get rid of you, why was that dad? Because you beat me, you beat her and she was tired of it, you left her with no other choice. You were a drunk and a psycho.
Danny Ray: You leaving was the best thing for me and mom, we were happy, mom loved me twice as much, not because she had to but because she wanted to. She more than made up for you not being there. Over the years growing up, I had to see doctors, not just regular doctors, but many specialists to be treated for Schizophrenia. Yeah, I take medication for it now, but I was hospitalized for it for a while in the same place you and grandpa were.
He leans back against the wall sliding down to the cold hard floor still speaking.
Danny Ray: I have worked hard over the years to get past all of that, some days are harder than others. But you know how it is family secrets are better locked up. So, I don't tell anyone, Amanda doesn't tell anyone about my past the kids know we don't keep secrets from them plus with this running on the male side of the family I want them to be prepared for it.
Danny Ray: A couple of years ago, I ran into a guy, who brought out that side of me and it almost tore my family apart, it almost tore me apart I almost crossed a line I wouldn't be able to come back from.
He reaches into the lockbox grabbing a mask as he picks it up you can see the chills running up his arms from it as he looks at it.
Danny Ray: This mask was given to me by a Luchador wrestler, El Cazador, a man who has great power and has, been places no man should ever go. We fought each other for a championship and we started off enemies but grew to respect one another he helped me put away this dark side of me but before he did that he almost brought it out of me for good.
Danny Ray: Now, I have a match against a man they call "Super K Ecstasy", and well everyone is talking about family and what it takes to become champion, and this and that. They are talking about James Knight and his wrestling family, except for his family secrets, but those are his to tell.
Danny Ray: James Knight has no quit in him but he also has no idea who he is facing. The world believes I am some religious family man, with everything to lose.
He smiles at the thought of being confused for the good "The Family Man".
Danny Ray: You see, the wrestling world and my opponent are still confused as to who I am. They believe I am still "The Family Man", although I have no family anymore, I am just a man left behind which makes me even more dangerous.
Danny Ray: If only James Knight knew the danger he has been placed in. He's a smart and dangerous opponent, he has held championship gold in several companies throughout the world. Although so have I!
"The Family Man" reaches around grabbing the papers he threw earlier and placing them back into the lockbox as he places the mask in it as well before locking it back up.
Danny Ray: James Knight, will soon find out exactly what type of secrets I have, as I beat him without mercy, without remorse, and without any boundaries. I will find out every one of his dark family secrets.
Danny Ray: James Knight knows what it is to fight inner demons, to worry about what's going to happen next. Although unlike him, my demons aren't drug-induced. They will learn why family secrets are better locked up.
He stands up and tosses the lockbox back inside the vault as he quickly places the marble plate back on it screwing it back on. As he begins to leave he turns back looking at the vault of his father and laughs as he walks out...
