“I’m from California, not Canada.”
The words leaving Julius lips to the reporter in front of him. All eyes on him in this NPW debut on live television for his second match ever.
“I’m a dual citizen as of recent when I bought the land at auction. Truth be told, I wanted to know my family’s roots. I’ve always felt it tells a lot about a man. Where he comes from, what his family did, the heart of a lineage.”
Running his hand through his short blonde hair, the tan and bright teethed young man was confident. There wasn’t an arrogant thought in his words.
“What that tells me about myself is that I was born to wrestle. The moment I tied up for the first, I knew this was in my blood. You see, I was living in California, where I was raised. That’s not going to be popular but it’s the truth. My biological father is Jesse, and until I was 18 I didn’t know that. It’s not easy to say, but we are making up for lost time.”
Fixing his collar, Julius shifts his weight to his left foot.
“My life had always been a question mark up until I discovered who my real father was. I’m still young, so I know there is a lot of growing up to do - but that’s not going to change how I approach life. Head on! I see a challenge and I take it by the horns, riding it to the ground, and pinning it for the 1-2-3!”
Stopping, Julius takes the hand in front of him at the NPW interview area for questioning.
“Julius, do you think your living up to your father’s name?” asks the lady.
“I’m green, I have potential, and that’s all that matters right now. A can-do attitude and heart have done more for me in life than what others say about me. Deep down, a man’s drive is how he sees himself, not what the world thinks of him.”
The reporter steps back and lets another person up. This man in a bow tie and a purple vest, he looks straight out of a comic book.
“Mister Fristik,” says the man with a screeching eerie voice, “Shane Severe is a constituent of mine. He asked me to send a message to you personally.” Clearing his throat, the man pulls out a paper and reads from it, “Jewls is a family man, so let me tell you what Julius - once I’m done with you, I’m coming for your old man!”
Steel blue eyes arch on Julius’ face as he peers right into the man’s eyes.
“If Shane Severe was as good as he believes, he would have told me face-to-face. Sending you to do his dirty work shows me the kinda opponent I can expect in the ring. You know what Shane, I’m not letting you slide on your bullshit, if you want my dad, he’ll be happy to sweep the mat with you - well whatever I leave for him that is.”
Gripping the podium, Julius gazes around the room as the man who spoke on behalf of Shane disappears behind the other reporters.
“I promise myself that I won’t back down from a fight! I have a lot to prove, and I’m ready to do it! From day one I am labeled the kid of Jesse Jamester; there is a grocery list of comments I hear in and out of the ring. Whether or not they like it, I put the hours in sweating, burning up fevers and still grappling and shooting for takedowns! I eat, sleep, and dream this! You’ll see me on NPW Honor coming up. I guarantee I will be making a name for myself in Honor. There is no doubt about it, you come up against the Pegasus Warrior, you’ll fly with the angels and crash like a comet, just try me out.”
Winking at a reporter woman who steps up into the booth just as he finishes the sentence.
“Julius - I have to ask, where did you get trained at if not by your father Jesse? You are heard saying his training wasn’t your first in the past. Do you care to elaborate?” with a nose in the air the woman interjects this grand jab.
Smirking, much the same as his father does, Julius rubs his chin.
“Look lady, I’ve been looking for answers for nearly ten years. Wrestling was my first passion and I found out why! Who I met and showed me things, who took care of me, all of that has it’s own time and place. My father is training me now, that’s all you need to know. What happens from here on out is I find who I am in that ring and hone it. Shane Severe, one move at a time, I’ll find what works for me, pick you apart, and plant you with the AlbertaPlex! Count your stars it’s only one, but that’s all I need. See you at the Open Weight Tournament Shane.”
Slapping the podium top with his hand, he smiles and waves at the reporters before exiting the room. A rule of thumb his dad had shared, never overstay your welcome. When you can’t think of anything else, exit stage right and show them.
