Return.
Much has changed since Jay Stevens last stepped foot in a Northern Pro Wrestling ring.
A championship reign ended as quickly as it began.
A realization.
Reaching a milestone is hard, maintaining that forward motion is even harder. Until you have experienced it, you can only believe you are ready. Once it arrives, you find out the truth one way or another.
Instead of basking in the glory of his newly won North American Cruiserweight Championship, Jay found himself dejected in the manner in which he captured the crown. Immediate self-doubt lingered. Yet another match where he found himself victorious due to unwanted aid.
"Am I really good enough?" would circle in his mind on repeat. "Can I do this on my own?"
With confidence shaken, he would lose the championship in his first defense to the rising upstart Lochlyn Cade.
It was time to regroup. Knowing a change was needed, the stars would align and show him the way. To stop ignoring his history and embrace what got him to the show.
A relocation.
Chicago is in the rearview, it's time to live and die in L.A.
The entirety of the “family business” has been plucked from it’s long time base of operations in Jacksonville, Florida and moved cross-country to Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. The men and women at the helm are pro wrestling royalty in Team Danger: Tyrone Walker, Kelly Evans and Jay’s father, Stephen Greer.
The motives behind the move are numerous but generally inconsequential to Jay’s story except that, along with moving their business operations, the relocation also moved their residences, including the home Jay lived in. A total upheaval of everything he has ever known might be exactly what is needed to realize his potential.
These changes arrived in a whirlwind of opportunity, to embrace the past, the family and the ideologies while also being granted the chance to build on something new.
A reinvigoration.
The support crew and most of the people Jay has grown up with made the move as well. The trainers at the school, the various office personnel and people tasked with keeping two aging chaos junkies from buying bumper cars and driving them down the 405 or jumping into the La Brea Tar Pits are scurrying around.
But for the first time in a long time in the Team Danger-verse there is a noticeable buzz. An energy and an excitement that is coursing through everyone, including Jay Stevens. The moment he stepped back into the fold he was given two tasks: teach the beginner’s class at the new school… and win.
Or, as his father so eloquently put it, “Quit fucking around and wrestle.”
So that’s what he’s going to do.
Reality.
Much has changed since Jay last stepped in an NPW ring. The wrestling world doesn’t just wait for you to get your shit together.
It moves on, it morphs and grows with or without you. Others get the opportunities that could have been yours. Relationships dry up and fade away, new faces emerge and shine.
You control your own destiny in this game. Jay Stevens is learning that more and more and the one thing he shares with his father more than anything else is the simple fact that his own worst enemy is and always will be…
Himself.
