“Northern Pro Wrestling… I’m back.”
That familiar baritone. The soft Dutch accent. The stern tone of professionalism. Could it be?
COLD OPEN.
Leon Van Zandt has made his triumphant return to Northern Pro Wrestling. He greets us, as is custom, in his minimalist, yet heavily matted gym, brandishing a pair of those signature training clubs as he sits on the floor, stripped to the waist.
“After a brief hangup between national authorities, I have returned to Canada once again, ready to show Northern Pro and its new home, the Continental Wrestling Alliance, the rustic and brutal style of wrestling in which I proudly specialize.
“And en route to the CWA World Heavyweight Championship tournament, I will be joining a most worthy ally, in Jay Stevens, against the Dark Stars. All in all, a worthy clash of warriors. And I am prepared to once again show Niko and Kono just what a warrior I can be! I’m sure I will need to adjust to the battle after a significant layoff, but I’m also confident that Meneer Stevens and myself will be victorious. And then? I will advance to the tournament, and I will show the WORLD just what I am capable of.”
A faint smile.
“But focusing back on Northern Pro itself… yes. I am coming back into action and the talent will have another great challenge awaiting him at all times.
“Oh! And I should mention that this time, I will not be alone.”
A slight chortle.
Cut.
————————
A circle of men huddled around a round table.
A massive ex-sumo wrestler with a tenuous, at best, grasp of any language other than his own.
An ex-kickboxer who looked like the last man anyone would want to fight.
A suave, well-dressed man with an eye for talent and a near-encyclopedic knowledge of the wrestling business.
And myself.
After regular meetings online to discuss our plans to unite and look out for each other in and out of the ring, we finally had a chance to meet in person. We had a great time and acted like we had been lifelong friends. And Meneer Dante, with his suit and cane, had begun mapping out our plans. And while I may not exactly have a new tag team partner, I was aware I could expect a new ally in NPW soon.
We raised our glasses and toasted to the road ahead.
